How much does a Shift4 card machine cost?
Your first Shift4 card machine is completely free with no deposit or upfront costs. If your business needs additional card machines, each extra unit costs just £15 per month. There are no hidden fees or surprise charges.
What are Shift4's card processing rates?
Shift4 offers simple, transparent card payment rates: 1.25% for businesses processing under £10,000 per month, 0.70% for businesses processing between £10,000 and £30,000 per month, and for volumes over £30,000 — debit cards at 0.45%, credit cards at 0.55%, and business cards at 1.9%. There are no per-tap fees, no chargeback fees, and 0% VAT on all processing charges.
Is there a contract or lock-in period?
No. Shift4 operates on a rolling basis with no fixed-term contract. There are no cancellation fees and no lock-in period. You can switch card machine provider at any time.
Does Shift4 provide card machines in Ireland?
Yes. Shift4 provides card machines and payment processing for businesses across both the United Kingdom and Ireland. The same transparent rates apply regardless of whether you process in pounds sterling or euros.
How quickly will I receive my card payments?
Shift4 offers next-day settlement Monday to Friday. There is a 25p fee per settlement. If you transact on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, those payments are all settled together on Monday for a single 25p fee. This means even if you trade 7 days a week, you pay a maximum of 5 settlement fees per week.
What types of payment can the card machine accept?
Shift4 card machines accept all major credit and debit cards including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. They also support contactless payments, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and traditional chip and pin transactions.
Do I need to pay for PCI compliance?
No. PCI compliance is included free of charge with every Shift4 card machine. Many other card payment providers charge a monthly PCI compliance fee, but with Shift4 it's always free.
Can I get an EPOS system with Shift4?
Yes. Shift4 offers a full EPOS system for £39 per month, with optional add-ons including a customer facing display (£24/month) and SkyTab Glass (£24/month). A kiosk is available for £39 per month plus an additional EPOS at £39 per month. Back-office access is included free with every EPOS. The EPOS integrates seamlessly with your Shift4 card machine for a complete business payment solution.
